Happy Valentine's Day!
Maggie and I are packing to head off to the Czech Republic for a training course for a couple of days. It's the "Carnaval" holiday this coming week, and these training courses opened up for us, so Duncan will be looking after the house while we're away. We last visited Prague in 2017 in the springtime, so it will be nice to go back again, although it will be colder than last time, with lows overnight dropping down to -10 or so.
Duncan has received all of his semester one exam results, and they were all quite good. That's the first time in his university career that he's passed every single course in a semester, so he's hoping to do the same semester two, avoid having to resit any exams in September, and so enjoy his summer holiday without having to study for retakes of exams. That means that he can enjoy working at the bar and hanging out with friends.
Malcolm is finishing up his visit to North America with some road trips; he's planning a week in NYC, which sounds exciting. We'll be glad to see him again when he returns in about a month's time. We are suspecting that he will stay with us for a while, and resume his repair and comission work.
I have added quite a few projects to the calendar: three Brahms Requiems in Wallonie and a Bach Cantata concert in Bruges in April, a June Matthäuspassion in Brussels that will also include boy sopranos from my St. John's choir to augment the main choir and orchestra, and a Mozart Requiem in the Netherlands in June to finish off the season. On top of these singing projects there are conducting ones: the Guys and Dolls musical May 22-25th, a high school choir festival in Warsaw in March, and middle school boys choir festival in Brussels in April, a spring recital in June, and a rock Extravaganza concert, probably also in June.
So lots to keep me busy!
