Off to school

It's eleven o'clock and all's well.  I've already got some singing in, and am just taking a break.  Here's a picture of some gladiolus blossoms that have been gracing our dining room for the last week, I thought they deserved mention.

Last night Malcolm was the chef and he decided to make Salade Liegois, which is a warm potato salad with green beans, pieces of bacon and shallots, with a sauce made from deglazing the bacon pan with red wine vinegar.  He read the recipe, chopped the ingredients, boiled the water for the potatoes, and combined everything, with a little help from the rest of the kitchen staff.  We're going to have the kids make a dinner of their choice one night each week from now on, and Maggie and I will take turns the other two nights.  On weekends we'll play it by ear or cook together.
We were all up early and off to school ahead of time.  It was lovely to see the other students and parents after our vacations, and we were pleased to discover that there might actually be another boy in Malcolm's class; there is a new student on the list, but the gender isn't clear from the name; we shall see.  Duncan was very excited to see his old friends, and is really looking forward to being a big boy in the primary section!
