a Canadianesque view... except for the windmill
Just a brief note today. We had a great time cycling along the sea-coast of Belgium over the last couple of days... but the heat here in the city makes me wish that we had stayed on the boat! Even now at 23h the thermometer reads 30 degrees inside, and 26 outside. It was as hot as 36 degrees today outside, and on our south-facing terrace I bet it was even hotter.
But we had to come home for two reasons. The first is that Frank has people coming to charter the boat tomorrow, so we had to clear out. The second is that we have our own destination in mind for tomorrow: we plan to get up early and leave directly for Paris. The drive, even while avoiding tolls should be at least four hours, so we hope to check into the Hotel Paris Vendome by around 13h tomorrow.
We are taking our bicycles, so it will be another side of Paris that we will see this visit. I have visited Paris many times, as has Maggie, but this is our first time to visit it together, and we plan to have a good little exploration by bike of the area around the place Vendome, the Louvre, and so forth...
We also hope to meet up with old friends from my Queen's days... Stuart Marlin was a prof for one quarter of my PSYC100 class, and we went on to become good friends. He and his wife Holly were our guests in Toronto shortly after he took his university position in Australia, but the two of them are in Paris this week for a conference, and exploring the city by camera: both are wonderfully talented photographers. More next week about our Paris adventures, if I can figure out how to safely take an iPhone photo from a moving bicycle there...
