We pulled out all the stops yesterday for our Thanksgiving dinner. Diana and Marion headed home to Paris in the morning, so we were without guests for the first time in a week, but still managed to get in some social time, going to the pool for a swim. We met another family with two sons around the same ages as Malcolm and Duncan, and then came back home to start cooking.
Maggie steamed some pumpkin in the rice cooker, and we pureed it to use in a pumpkin pie that went into the oven to cook while we were preparing the rest of the meal. We did greek lemon-garlic roasted potatoes (in honour of the Danforth) and roasted turkey legs with root vegetables, and green beans. Cranberries with orange zest and turkey gravy were essential side orders, and it was a great celebration, but not a late one, since we don't have today off here in Belgium. That's fine, Maggie and the kids make up for it with a whole week off for Toussaint, or all-saints, the first week of November.
Happy Thanksgiving to all our friends and family back in Canada!
