It was a good concert for Malcolm last night. Five harps in the orchestra, and while the standard complement of instruments performed earlier in the day, it was mostly guitars interspersed with piano for our part of the evening's performances. I particularly enjoyed the two guys with electrics; one with an Epiphone Les Paul, and the other with what looked like a Charvel... but I can't be sure, that's only my impression from 40 feet away. The Epiphone guy played a Vox amp, it sounded pretty sweet with the early Beatles stuff. There were also some golden "oldies"; they opened the concert with an Handel oboe quintet and followed it up with a Bach soprano aria with 'cello, flute, and due oboi d'amore... surreal but fun.
Malcolm was very professionally comported, sang well, and had a lot of fun with the Beatles music, and seemed to be very satisfied that the concert was finally being performed. Our biggest problem now is getting Eight days a week out of our heads, since it seems to be a particularly long-lasting "ear worm".
This afternoon Maggie and I compared notes with Mathias and Karin about secondary schools... it was a great visit, while the kids alternately played card games and watched Beetlejuice upstairs in French (Duncan said the part where Beetlejuice becomes a snake is really scary, but the movie was still understandable in French; Lisbeth thought it was very cool). Choosing a secondary school is challenging here, with many options, so we welcomed the opportunity to discuss the choices at length with our friends and to get to know them better.
Tomorrow promises some rest; the usual church visit in the morning, then a pretty quiet afternoon. If it's warm enough we'll barbeque lamb tomorrow afternoon, and who knows, I might sneak in a post-German-course cigar? Outrageous!
