Today we rented a 2.0 VW Golf cabrio... It isn't red, and the suspension and transmission is a little soft for my taste, but with all the twisty switchback roads it's still ok, so I am happy.
We got the gang together, and set off down the road to Lovrenčina and beyond, climbing to the highest point on Brac to descend the other side and arrive at Bol, on the centre of the southern shore of the island.
The beach at Bol is amazing, a long peninsula of small pebbles extending into the Adriatic. Lots of beautiful people sunning themselves there, and well-established beach cafés seemed to indicate that this is the most hip place to be on Brač.
It was a busy day yesterday evening despite our earlier resolution to take it easy. In the morning I took off on my own and listened through act 1 of the Offenbach operetta I'm preparing, and in the afternoon we hung about at the beach. In the evening we walked into Postira and then up into the valley to Dol, where the Konoba Toni welcomed us for dinner. This beautiful old house is 300 years old, and we met all the extended family members who were there, running their restaurant together. Iwo from the tourist centre is the eldest son of the current proprietor, himself the third generation owner, and was waiting tables, as was his uncle Pave, who incidentally built the nice barbeque that we have been enjoying the use of here at Nada and Dragan's. After the meal the younger son Jaško drove us back home to Molo Lozna...
But the night didn't stop there. We sat down for a conversation with our downstairs neighbors Milé and Sandra, and enjoyed several bottles of beer together. He's a network engineer for Cisco, and she is a doctor of organic chemistry and an amateur flamenco dancer; they live in Novisad. Great conversation, but pretty soon it was 2:30 am! Yikes! Oh well, it's the holidays...
